Celebrities are NOT your friends

 Celebrities are NOT your friends

“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you, and find their joy in praising you.” (St Augustine)

It is common for people to judge other solely based on their image and not on who they are in reality. The biggest example of that are celebrities and the worship coulture
Since the beginning of time there were many cases in which people worship other people as gods.In ancient Egypt and other civillizaiton their leader was gifted with god-like abillities. In Rome , gladiators were like celebrities promoting products, selling small statues of themselves and  gaining millions of fans. In recent years the same role was held by the Royal family

For the people who worship these "gods" admiring them wasnt enough. They had to idolise them portraying them as the perfect humans.

The Celebrity Bias effect has thrived for years and it will continue to thrive. People and especially teenage girls spent money on concerts and merchendise watch religiously interviews and worship these celebrities as if they are gods.
And this is where the problem starts. Because this is the time when the Celebrity Worship Syndrome starts showing its first symptoms. Celebrity Worship Syndrome is a mental condition in which the patient can become obsessed with a certain famous figure developing a parasocial relationship from developing feeling for them to extreme situations that involves stalking, assault and in some cases suicides.
@luv4ngel You can be friendly with idols but be respectful in the process, at the end of the day you’re a stranger to these idols, you shouldn’t be grabbing them #kpopstans #kpop #kpopfyp ♬ original sound - luv4ngel

The first level starts with the person developing an admiration for the celebrity An example of a typical. entertainment-social attitude would be "My friends and I like to discuss what my favorite celebrity has done." This can also be applied to following obsessively celebrities on social media and it  has been seen to have a number of negative effects with regards the development of unhealthy eating tendencies (eating disorders),anxiety, depression, poor body image and low self esteem, especially in young adolescents aged 13 to mid-20s. This can be supported by a study carried out on a group of female adolescents between the ages of (17–20).

The second level of CWS is being associated multiple times with neuroticism and psycotism. Patients who suffer claim that a certain celebrity appears to be their soulmate. In cases where a celebrity is physically attractive these behaviours are linked to low self esteem that are related to body images.

Τhe third level is when the disorder starts getting more serious and sometimes the people who suffer can form dangerous behaviours with some of them commiting stalking. In many stalking cases the perpetrator has previously created a love stalking account in a percentage of 20/25%. This is also being highly associated with other mental disorder such as schichofrenia and / or paranoia.

There are many reasons why we tend to worship famous people as if they are gods. The first one is the illusion that is created by the media that the celebrities are in fact approachable. Through interviews, funny videos and interactions with fans we get the illusion that these people treat us like they are our friends with kindness without judging us.

Psycologically this can be explained through the Halo Effect. As people we tend to appreciate others who have one good aspect in their personality thinking that they are equally good at other of their aspects. For example if someone is conventionally attractive and successful we tend to think that they are also good people.

The last possible theory is that celebrity worship is a God substitude. As it was said in the Little Prince we have a God-shaped hole inside of us. We used to worship gods and after that scientists. But not everyone believes in God and not everyone has the knowledge to understand scientific terms. But everyone knows a Taylor Swift song.

No matter what the reason is we always have to keep in mind that actors and celebrities in general play a role in front of the camera and this doesnt always reflect their true personallity.

A deep dive in the beauty standards

A deep  dive in the beauty standards "Women are not supposed to be put in boxes. We are not Barbie dolls—and never will be—so defying society’s  standards is how we learn to love our true, authentic selves. If you want to put on a full face of makeup,  do it. If you are hungry, eat a meal. If you don’t want to shave, then don’t." The Sartorial magazine  Beauty standards are culturally and historically specific ideals of physical attractiveness, defining desirable traits like body shape, facial features, skin tone, and grooming, heavily influenced by media and societal norms, often leading to unrealistic expectations  https://sartorialmagazine.com/beauty/2023/11/15/unrealistic-beauty-standards and negative mental health impacts, though movements for body positivity challenge these narrow views  The first example of beauty standards can be seen as early as  the Paleolithic Age ( 25,000 BC )  Venus of Willerdof  represents the ideal standa...
